'Good Morning, America' co-anchors Amy Robach & T. J. Holmes were hounded by the tabloid press for having an affair. They're off the air now, but why were they targeted in the first place?
Thanks for calling out the hypocrisy in this story. I don't follow the morning shows but when this came to light I saw through the whole thing. My first thought was what about Mika and Joe. Totally agree with your assessment.
Right, Mika and Joe. The difference in treatment is outrageous. I suspect others like you, who don’t watch the morning news programs, are probably wondering WTF? But sometimes I wonder if I’ve become hypersensitive to race issues. Glad it’s not just me seeing the BS in this situation.
I found myself agreeing with your opinions here, Andrew. I don’t like the vilification of TJ and the pass for Amy that seems to be the theme of most articles. I hope this is the real thing for them - they certainly seem to be all in, and willing to do what it takes to be “out there” as a couple.
Thanks for reading and commenting. Glad to know I'm not entirely alone in my thinking about this situation. That this couple refused to cower and hide after their relationship became public tells me they didn't believe they were doing anything wrong. That seems to augur well for them. Only time will tell how well they endure all the negative press that's been directed at them.
Absolutely loved this analysis and you have a beautiful speaking voice. In reference to the British tabloids taking the lead on this story, I think it's important to note the Epstein/Prince Andrew link with ABC's silencing of Amy Robach a few years ago. ABC forced her to drop her exclusive Epstein story because the Palace apparently threatened to block them from covering certain royal events, which I guess made them shake in their boots.
So you mentioned that someone was purposely targeting Amy and TJ, it's quite possible that that's what gained the Dailymail's interest in the story in the first place.
Glad to know you liked the piece, and thanks for your kind words about my narration.
Thanks also for bringing up that Epstein/Prince Andrew story of Amy's, which was quashed by the network. I remember that a hot mic caught her complaining about it from the anchor desk after Epstein was arrested. But I didn't know the Palace might have exerted pressure on the network.
No doubt Amy's continued silence about all that was one of the things the nondisclosure agreement was meant to ensure. I really appreciate your input about this. It's a reminder that reporters take their direction from executives who often have ulterior motives for the priorities they push. That's why I feel someone at the "top" deliberately targeted the couple and made a concentrated effort to keep up the pressure until they were gone.
Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy of this "scandal". I don't understand the right wing obsession with this couple or Megan Markle. Watching English TV programs, blended families are part of almost every drama. It really is not possible to turn the clock back to a time when the law prohibited adults from different races to openly love and live together. It really is none of our business and definitely is racism thinly disguised as " news".
Thank you for reading and commenting. I totally agree that the hit job on this couple was nothing more than racism masquerading as "news." Like you, I believe their relationship is nobody's business but theirs. It's not as if they're public officials stealing from the government till. Most people, I think, accept that we can't turn the clock back. Unfortunately, there's still an audience for those who would like nothing more than to return to the past.
I think it's obvious. I'm sure you remember the nastiness around Bryant Gumble and Jane Pauley just working together. Times change, but at a glacial pace.
Unfortunately, it is obvious. To me, at least. That's why I asked if maybe I was wrong to feel racism was behind the hit job on Amy and T. J. I sure hope things change before the glaciers have melted. (although maybe that would speed things up :)
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.

Good for them!
