Thank you! Sad to say although this is well written- Walker would not understand this.

I'm sorry that you and many African Americans were forced to endure Walker's sad, sad journey. I hope that Walker will somehow find a way. I hope you had a fine Thanksgiving and that you and your loved ones flourish in the coming year.

Thanks so much for your kind wishes and for reading and weighing in. Another reader recently mentioned to me offline that the Walker candidacy was also an insult to all Americans. That wasn't in my mind when I wrote this. But I see the truth of that now. To put forth such an unworthy candidate was to sneer at democracy itself.

Despite the buffoonery of the campaign, my family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We mostly laughed at Walker. I didn't realize quite how angry I was about it, though, until I started writing this piece.

I appreciate your encouragement and support. May you and your loved ones enjoy a happy and blessed holiday season.

The sentences you refer to really are at the heart of the matter. And yes, the sadness of it all is tragic on so many levels. Thank you for understanding that. Thanks also for reading and commenting. Much appreciated.

"Even though he did everything in his power to become white, he is a Black man running from the inherited pain of blackness. Hoping, perhaps, that the embrace of whiteness would save him from his own unacknowledged shadow."

There is almost unbearable sadness in those words, far beyond Walker. It is an indictment of where we live, who we are, and the inescapability of it all.
