Heard there were plans to turn his mug shot and fingerprints into Tee shirts and other materials to advertise his 2nd presidential campaign and concomitant "witch hunt" activities.

Apparently marketing rights to all of his escapades were part of the deal he initially signed with the Devil.

Wow. I guess I’m not surprised to hear that, although NBC reported this morning that releasing the mugshot publicly is not mandatory under New York State law.

This may be the first time an indicted individual requests to receive one. His campaign has already raised an estimated $5 million off the indictment so far. And all this time I thought Faust was just a story.

It’s always good to receive your take on what I write, and I’m especially glad you liked this one.

I had intended to skip discussing the indictment here since I too am tired of the constant drama. But once I downloaded my photos from that NPG trip, everything flowed from there.

NBC reported this morning that TFG got a 10-point boost in polls since 3/20 because of the indictment. He’s now at 57% over DeSantis who’s down 8 points to 31%. But it’s early in the game. We both know how quickly things can change in politics.

Hope you’re enjoying the Gulf Coast!

Having recently moved to the gulf coast in the apartheid state of Mississippi ... I have noticed that I am not seeing nearly as much loud, wild Trumpism as I did in 2020. Even people who intend to vote for him seem to be weary of all the chaos and noise. Constant rage is exhausting, and I surely hope his fans are getting tired, since they don't seem to be getting more clear-eyed. Thanks for this thoughtful piece. You're the only one who can get me to read about politics right now LOL.

Another absorbing take on our world. I agree with everything you said and hope that the desire for disruption and autocracy is waning and the electorate will finally see the emperor wears no clothes.

Thanks for reading and adding your thoughts to the discussion. That word “hope” is coming up a lot. If the 2020 election proved anything, most Americans are tired of the disruption you mention. It would be nice to put this behind us once and for all.

I have a bad feeling about the indictment - I’m afraid it’s the catalyst he needed in his campaign. It’s also dividing the country more every day. Why did it have to be now?

People forget sometimes that the beginning of 2023 was really early to announce one's candidacy for president in 2024. Why announce so early, before anyone else, unless you were pretty sure an indictment would be coming--and you wanted to undermine the process by making any legal proceeding seem political?

On Friday's PBS NewsHour columnist David Brooks said the indictment had indeed provided the catalyst you've mentioned. But it's early days yet. And you have to wonder how long that energy will last. As other GOP candidates jump into the race, they will surely be looking for ways to sway that momentum toward themselves.

Thanks for reading and adding your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for your measured perspective of DaBoss. Your point that the jury, and not Bragg, is responsible for his indictment, is not made nearly enough in the press. Perhaps after NYC shrugs off his ugly clarion call for violence to be done on his behalf, some of his spell will be broken and perhaps his own Party will begin to push him to the background of our political life.

Thanks for the reminder that New York will not tolerate a repeat of January 6th. The failure of the press to point out that it's the grand jury that indicts lends tacit fuel to the political persecution BS.

I'm glad you used the word "spell" in your remarks. A demagogue's power is just that, a form of witchery. I meant to point out that populism traditionally appeals to emotionalism and pits "the people" against a perceived "elite." But I couldn't say everything in a single piece.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated!

So much of our future is riding on the rule of law as Trump continues to subvert it at every turn. We can only hope that the legal system prevails

It's astonishing to watch this "subversive" contempt play out. But I'm hopeful that our foundational institutions and the rule of law will prevail. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.
