Hi Andrew - Just responded to your comment on my piece on Yuja Wang. Are you still in the Bay Area? I'm a long-time Bay Area resident, now living in a cottage in the woods in Marin. Blessed to be living in this blue bubble where I can have plenty of support as the US government falls apart. Besides writing in my Substack "From There to Here," I'm posting on Notes some videos . . . we are such a voyeuristic culture! Also a video of my playing a Hiromi arrangement of "Green Tea Garden." Although my area of expertise all my life has been classical music, I branched out a little into jazz. Look forward to your postings!
Loved your Hiromi piece and restacked it, Patricia. You got some nice riffs in there! I’m following you now so hope to see your notes and posts more often. I left the Bay Area for Palo Alto, Monterey, the San Juan Islands, and eventually Atlanta, where I grew up. But San Francisco was where I came of age, gradually loosening the heavy Catholic yoke I was raised with. Three cheers for the Green Gulch Zen Retreat Center in Marin County and good old Alan Watts too. It’s good to know you’re keeping safe and sane in your peaceful neck of the woods. No doubt your environment contributes to the calm I feel whenever I read your posts. Looking forward to more.
It’s only natural for you to ask that, Patricia, since you’re from the Bay Area where he lived. But no, I’m not related to him even though people used to think I was back when X was still Twitter. Our only connection besides the name is that I own several of his CDs. Nice that you know who he is. Thanks for checking.
Hi Andrew - I am from India and I really enjoyed listening to you share your stories and your masterful style of narration which blurs the distance between continents, as though you are sitting down for a cup of coffee, and we are having a conversation like neighbours often share. It would be really interesting to keep listening to your stories. Looking forward to more from you on Substack!
That is exactly what I want to do, Svara. To be able to reach out and connect with others in an authentic way. I hadn’t planned to narrate my stories at first. But your kind words have encouraged me to keep doing it. Thank you very much. It’s really good to hear from you!
Very professional audio, Andrew - you have the perfect voice for telling your own stories. I look forward to reading (and hopefully, listening to) Amanuensis. I’ll see you on Substack!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you like it. Recording Amanuensis will require a different kind of voice. It will be a challenge, but maybe I’ll give it a try.
The “Ministry of Truth” still hard at work rewriting history.
Yes it is!

Looking forward to your posts also Andrew. Are you by any chance related to the jazz pianist Andrew Hill??
