In many ways this whole incident is a proverbial "tempest in a tea pot." It really does not have any real meaning in the lives of millions of people who saw it and then became the "noise" you wrote of. It became a great excuse for many to take the moral high ground so that they could look down on Smith and Rock. Seems like energy can be more appropriately spent on trying to help the people in Ukraine, work on the issue of climate change, etc. Your thoughts have been valuable to me. They have given me a perspective on the incident that I would not have had given my age, gender, and race. But, enough is enough. Lets get on to something more important soon.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I totally agree. It’s definitely time to move on. I hesitated before publishing this final piece on the subject because I’m sick of it too. But it sort of wrote itself, so I went with it.

It’s good to know you found something useful in my perspective. I’m working on some fiction that I hope to announce soon. It will be a pleasure to share that with you in the not-to-distant future.

Thanks again for reading and for your encouragement and support.

Didn't see "the slap"; today's version of a Shakespearean / Greek tragedy. My sympathies lie with Serena & Vanessa & their families and Chris Rock; foremost. While Smith's slap is in no way acceptable, who knows what may have been behind this painful lashing out? Hollywood routinely provides cover for far more corrupt people: from Frank Sinatra to Donald Trump to William Hurt, lauded at death for his accomplished career--despite the fact that he violently sexually assaulted Marlee Matlin when she was 18 and subsequent girlfriends. Many innocent people have suffered. Let Will Smith turn this into a redemptive object lesson and show that it's possible to regain honor by what you do next. Let his millions achieve much for minorities in Hollywood, and for the world.

Thanks for reading/listening and for letting me know about the painful stories of women involved with William Hurt.

Hollywood is all about image-making and making money off those images. I suspect there’s plenty more behind The Slap “punishment,” which we probably won’t know about till years from now.

Believing the image of movie icons is like believing a social media avatar. Really appreciate your contribution to this discussion. Thanks again.

After reading/listening to this thoughtful reflection on ‘It’, I don’t need to ever read another word on the subject. You brought it around to what really matters - human kindness. Thank you for that!
