Andrew. All your pieces provide interesting perspective and always get me thinking. Thanks for writing this way. The sailing ship trip sounded great but I get so sea sick, I wouldn't have been able to converse with anyone, no matter their political leanings. But you are right that, if we can disregard politics, we have a lot more in common than we admit. Also, the Hero with a Thousand Faces is new to me so I look forward to digging into that. Thanks.

Thanks for your encouraging thoughts, Biz. It means a lot.

These days there are wristbands that supposedly prevent seasickness. I picked up a few before sailing but never needed them. But your levity was not lost on me. Neither was your point. We have lots in common if only we could slow down enough to notice.

About the Hero with a Thousand Faces. It was written by Joseph Campbell. George Lucas says it was a major influence when he was writing Star Wars. So that ought to tell you something. Campbell taught comparative literature at Sarah Lawrence for many years. There's quite a good video series called The Power of Myth, which he did with Bill Moyers a while back. You might enjoy it.

You make a good point: Age isn’t the same for everyone, and competency is individual no matter a person’s age. Each leader/ representative should be measured by his/her ability to serve. That goes for Boomers on down to Millennials.

Great analysis, though I tend to be more skeptical. Those many-faced heroes are so often disappointing in the end.

Thanks for reading and for your response. Between your skepticism and my cautious optimism maybe we’ll wind up with someone competent if not heroic.
