Apparently I commented in my head, but not in actual reality. (But I did "Share"). What Keith says below--Brilliant and insightful--the parallel you drew was extraordinary. I couldn't help but wonder where and how these ideas come to you--over coffee? A morning walk? Seeing a book on your bookshelves? However they come to you--keep them coming our way!

Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Diana. I’m glad you appreciate the parallels I’ve noted. Gatsby is one of my favorite novels, and I’d recently reread it. I also watched Baz Luhrmann’s lively movie again. So the story was very much in my mind as he who should not be named rose again like Harry Potter’s Voldemort. I’m glad you liked what came out of that. Cheers!

Now that makes me think of the historian who wrote 50 some years ago or more that if you didn't want conflict live in Switzerland bc the only thing they produced was coococlocks

Ah yes. Switzerland produces the clocks. The U.S. provides the cuckoos. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for reading and weighing in. Re-reading Gatsby reminded me that it’s always been scary.

The parallel to Gatsby is fascinating. At this point I feel as though I am watching a car racing full speed at a stone wall and am unable to do anything to prevent the crash - helpless. I have never been so afraid of the future. The only small blessing is my family is not divided nor at war with each other over this. Take care Andrew and keep speaking out for us.

The speeding race car is a perfect analogy. Glad to hear your family is not divided as others are. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this one. It means a lot to me. And please try not to be afraid. That’s what bullies count on. We cannot let them have that.

Impressive insight and powerful writing. The novel surely survived the test of time...let's hope the USA can survive the test of Trump.
