Another good read Andrew. I would love for those cops to be tested. That kind of rage isn’t normal. That photo of the Volunteer Bridge is spectacular.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Susan. Even if police unions continue to block random testing, you’d think they’d support testing in an incident like this. Glad you like the photo and the read. Much appreciated!

Despite numerous rumors claiming that the beating of Tyre Nichols was personal because he was allegedly having an affair with the ex-wife of one of the five police officers are unsubstantiated. None of the social media accounts spreading this rumor have provided any corroboration to support the claim. Memphis police will say only that they are investigating everything, and nothing is off the table. Tyre's mother and stepfather have said the rumor is false and have asked people to stop spreading it.

As of 2/3/2023, Newsweek, Politifact, and Snopes have all fact checked the rumor and ruled it as unsubstantiated or false. Here's are the links:

Shocking. Living in my non-US bubble, I hadn't even heard of this case until now.

Posting Tyre's photo really brings home the tragedy. US policing is just...monstrous.

Shocking is definitely the right word. Sadly, it’s not the first time Americans have seen this kind of thing.

A Stanford University psychologist interviewed last night says our constant exposure to videos that depict cops killing Black citizens can lead to trauma on the one hand or emotional numbness on the other. Either way, it’s not good.

Thanks for taking the time to read and weigh in. It’s good to see you here.

Excellent article. I hadn't read about police use of steroids. It's scary, as is every aspect of this murder. Thanks for calling attention to this problem.

And thank you for reading and commenting. The issue is well known but not discussed much. But it certainly seems a plausible explanation for what happened. Even if we eventually hear of some other motive down the road, the extent of the beating was way over-the-top.

There are so many unanswered questions surrounding this horrible murder - and you’ve brought up one that hasn’t been asked in any of the coverage I’ve seen. As Mikels said in his comment, this is a great piece of journalism (not just an echo of what everyone else is saying). Also, thank you for sharing one of his photographs and the link to his website - thanks for recognizing his humanity.

And thank you for taking time to read and share your thoughts. Yes, still so many unanswered questions. It's quite possible, of course, that further investigation will uncover a motive the public knows nothing about. In the meantime, it does indeed seem important to remember Tyre's humanity and to shine a light on it. Glad you appreciated what I wrote.

Great piece of journalism. Let's hope that something good comes of it.

Thanks for reading and weighing in. It means a lot. I'll get this onto social media in hopes that someone with greater reach than mine will get the steroid issue into the larger conversation, even if it turns out some unknown motive was behind this tragedy.
