Great piece and perspective Andrew. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on such a meaningful influence from your high school days. Coincidentally, yesterday I reached out to my favorite HS teacher for the first time in 16 years. Reading your piece today made me feel like my sentiments are in good company.
If I were a betting man, Biz, I'd bet your favorite HS teacher remembered you and was delighted to hear from you as well. We're all standing on the shoulders of those who believed in us and pointed us in the right direction, aren't we? Thanks for taking the time to read and share your own experience. Much appreciated.
Hope so. I believe I was part of the first class he ever taught and I also had him for home room. I benefited from his enthusiasm for starting a career and I think he was 'all in' on it. (He was coincidentally a Jasper.)
Sometimes it seems like one more stone in the avalanche that seems destined to engulf us. Then I read this, the account of a woman's life, and a man's loss of his mother. Thank you and amen.
Now it’s my turn to thank you. Earlier today I came across a polemic that made me question the relevance of my little meditation here. Then I read your response. Thank YOU, and amen.
No matter how one feels about the monarchy, most people appreciate Queen Elizabeth II for the way she carried out her duties - with dignity, kindness and grace in every situation. I mourn for her family and the people of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.
I love how you tied the importance of her passing to the tears of Graham Jackson and The Slaughterhouse Five. Well thought out and written, as always!
Yes, I agree. Who could possibly fail to appreciate her kindness and dignity. Thanks so much for reading and for sharing your own thoughtful comments. I’m glad you liked it.
Beautifully said. All my mixed feelings about the new king are tempered by knowing how it feels to bury your mother, and your last parent. (off now to read more about Graham Jackson ...)
