Listen now | A new TV Series features the former VP's early years—before Frankenstein blew up, forcing him into hiding on the worst day of his life. (Part 2 of the Uvalde Series)
How you manage to be funny, informative, serious, and frightening in the same stroke has to be the definition of genius. Another great piece. Thank you.
Thanks so much for reading and adding these encouraging thoughts. I'm glad you liked it and appreciated the satire. The almost predictable frequency of mass shootings in the USA has made it difficult to write about the subject without getting depressed. I don't think of myself as a satirist, but pointing out the absurdity at least gave me enough distance take up the pen again. I'm really grateful that you saw some value in it. Much appreciated!
This just in: Hours after I posted today's piece, the Texas GOP formally declared Biden's election illegitimate. See what I mean about the 25 million? Here's a link to the Reuter's story:
You’ve summed up the two sides to these issues so smartly in this piece. The battle lines are drawn, and I don’t see a meeting in the middle any time soon. We’ve vilified each other to the point that we don’t trust the motives of anyone with a different opinion (don’t mean to paint with such a broad brush - but it’s definitely true to a large extent) When trust is lost, there is no working together. How do we get faith in our institutions back?
Thanks for reading and for finding something of value in today's piece. Maybe we need a new sports metaphor. In today's politics, each side wants to stop the other from gaining yardage while they try to get possession of the ball. Maybe we should replace football with a less violent, more collaborative sport like volleyball. Failing that, we can always hope there's a parallel universe that looks like an eternal Coke commercial.
I don't know the answer to your question, but to get away from satire, I did recently learn of a university program that's looking into the causes and possible solutions to polarization, especially the role played by the internet. I'll post something about it when I find out more. Really appreciate your input today. Thanks again!
This piece covers it all as the downward spiral of life in 2022 America continues on its inevitable path. It is said that hope springs eternal but the spring seems to be very close to running dry.
When I began working on this piece, I had Gibbon's "Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire" in mind, which had come up in a different context. It's one thing to read about ancient history and quite another to be witnessing the apparent decline of modern civilization within our own lifetimes. People accuse me of being incurably optimistic, but even I feel challenged to find a solution to what's happening. Really grateful to you, though, for taking time to read today's post and contribute your perspective. Many thanks!

By the way, I'm trying out new shorter theme music for the Jazprose Diaries today. Hope you like it.
